3. ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Junior Finance Officer, you'll be the backbone of our financial operations, supporting Jibu's mission to scale clean water access across Africa. You'll manage day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, and compliance while working alongside a collaborative team committed to social impact. This role offers hands-on experience in social enterprise finance while directly contributing to our vision of water security for millions.
4. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate accounts payable/receivable records, process invoices, and reconcile bank statements
- Bookkeeping & Data Entry: Record financial transactions in accounting software with precision and attention to detail
- Financial Reporting Support: Assist in preparing monthly/quarterly financial statements and variance reports for management review
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to financial policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards; maintain organized financial records
- Budget Support: Help track departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and flag variances for senior finance staff
- Grant & Donor Management: Support grant tracking, donor reporting requirements, and impact metrics documentation
- Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with internal departments and external partners on financial matters and payment processing
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline financial workflows and contribute to system optimization
5. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent professional certification in progress)
- OR 2+ years of relevant accounting/finance experience with demonstrated competency
Experience:
- 1-2 years in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance support roles
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, or similar platforms)
- Experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, basic financial modeling)
Required Skills:
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Basic understanding of accounting principles (debits/credits, reconciliation, financial statements)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial information
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to ask clarifying questions
6. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with donor reporting frameworks or grant compliance
- Knowledge of African business contexts or emerging market finance
- Experience with financial forecasting or scenario planning
- Certification progress toward CPA, ACCA, or similar accounting credentials
- Experience with water, agriculture, or environmental sector organizations
